Sandals South Coast reopens on November 18, 2026, the first of three Jamaica resorts returning from Sandals’ $200 million “Sandals 2.0” transformation. The reimagined resort brings a new signature pool, an open-air lobby, new restaurants including Butch’s Island Chophouse, a dedicated rum club — and Jamaica’s only overwater bungalows. When does Sandals South Coast reopen?

According to Sandals’ official Great Jamaica Comeback page, Sandals South Coast welcomes its first guests back on November 18, 2026. Its two sister resorts follow one month later: Sandals Montego Bay and Sandals Caribbean Cay (formerly Sandals Royal Caribbean) both reopen on December 18, 2026.

All three resorts closed after Hurricane Melissa hit Jamaica in fall 2025. What’s new at Sandals South Coast after the renovation?

South Coast’s share of the $200 million project is a genuine reimagining, not a repaint. Here’s what’s changing:

• A new signature pool. The old pool tower is coming down to make way for a dramatic new waterfront pool oasis at the center of the resort.
• An open-air lobby. The arrival experience is being opened up so the sea breeze reaches you the moment you walk in.
• New dining and bars. New concepts include Butch’s Island Chophouse (a chophouse named for founder Butch Stewart), the Blum Coffee Bar pouring Jamaica’s famous Blue Mountain coffee, and a dedicated rum club — alongside refreshes of the resort’s existing restaurants.
• Refreshed suites and landscaping. Upgraded accommodations and new landscaping designed to pull the resort’s 500-acre protected nature reserve setting deeper into the guest experience, with wellness woven throughout.

One caveat from an advisor who reads the fine print: Sandals notes its published images of the reimagined resorts are renderings and details may change. I’ll update this page as we see the finished spaces.

Does Sandals South Coast still have overwater bungalows?

Yes. South Coast remains home to Jamaica’s only overwater bungalows, hovering over the calm, protected waters of Bluefields Bay, plus the resort’s over-the-water wedding chapel and overwater bar. If your dream honeymoon photo is a private bungalow deck with nothing but Caribbean Sea beneath you, this is still the only place in Jamaica to get it. Overwater categories sell out first for winter dates, so if that’s the room you want for a December 2026 or 2027 honeymoon, book it before the reopening buzz peaks.

South Coast has always been my pick for couples who want Jamaica without the crowds. It sits on a two-mile stretch of beach in Whitehouse, about 90 minutes from Montego Bay’s airport (plan closer to two hours with island traffic) — and that drive is exactly why it stays quiet and secluded. Every room faces the sea, and the resort backs onto a 500-acre nature reserve instead of a strip of hotels.

Now add the timing: from November 18, 2026 until the other two resorts reopen a month later, South Coast will be the newest-feeling Sandals in Jamaica — new pool, new restaurants, freshly redone suites. A honeymoon or anniversary trip in late November or December 2026 gets you an effectively brand-new luxury resort at regular Sandals pricing, and winter is the south coast’s dry, sunny season.
