Planning a Sandals honeymoon is one of the most rewarding things I do as a travel agent — and also one of the most consequential. Your honeymoon happens once. Getting the resort, the timing, the room category, and the little details right can mean the difference between a good trip and a truly unforgettable one.

I’ve personally visited all 17 Sandals resorts and all 3 Beaches resorts across the Caribbean. I’ve booked hundreds of Sandals honeymoons for couples over 17 years at Pixie Honeymoons. This guide covers everything you need to know to plan the perfect Sandals honeymoon in 2026 — step by step, from the moment you get engaged to the moment your plane lands back home.

Our honeymoon planning service is completely free. Sandals compensates travel agencies directly, so you pay the same price or less than booking direct — with a Platinum Elite specialist handling every detail. Get a free honeymoon quote →

Step 1: Start Planning 9-12 Months Before Your Wedding

Sandals overwater bungalows and top-tier butler suites book out 9-12 months in advance, especially for summer travel (June-August) and the Christmas/New Year holiday window. If you have a specific resort or room category in mind — and you should, because room selection matters enormously at Sandals — start planning as soon as you get engaged.

Here’s a simple planning timeline:

  • 12 months out: Decide on the resort and room category. Get a quote from Pixie Honeymoons to lock availability
  • 10-12 months out: Book and pay the deposit (typically $200 per person). Watch for price drops — Sandals regularly runs sales that can lower your total
  • 6 months out: Confirm your travel documents (passports, which should be valid 6+ months after return date). Book any optional resort excursions
  • 3 months out: Check in with your Pixie Honeymoons agent for any new promotions or rate improvements. Confirm airport transfers are arranged
  • 30 days out: Make your final balance payment. Pack according to the resort’s dress code (most Sandals require resort-casual for dinner)
  • At the resort: Register your honeymoon with the front desk on check-in. This activates your complimentary Sandals honeymoon perks

Step 2: Choose the Right Sandals Resort for Your Honeymoon

This is the most important decision. There are 17 Sandals resorts across 9 Caribbean islands, and they are genuinely different experiences. Here’s how I approach the resort recommendation for honeymooning couples:

Best Sandals Resorts for Honeymoons (2026)

Sandals Grande St. Lucian — My #1 recommendation for most honeymooners. The Piton mountain views, overwater bungalows, and 16 restaurants make this the most romantic Sandals experience I’ve visited. The overwater bungalows with glass floors, private plunge pools, and butler service are exactly what honeymooners dream of.

Sandals Saint Vincent — The newest property (opened 2024) with the most modern overwater villas in the Sandals portfolio. Every overwater villa comes with butler service as standard — no upgrade required. Ideal for couples who want the newest, most exclusive experience.

Sandals Royal Curaçao — Best for adventurous couples who want to explore beyond the resort. The Island Inclusive program includes complimentary MINI Cooper rentals and dining at local Curaçao restaurants. Curaçao is also outside the hurricane belt, so it’s a year-round safe destination.

Sandals Grenada — The best choice for couples who want intimacy and privacy. Fewer guests, the iconic South Seas Rondoval suites with private plunge pools, and Grenada’s incredible off-resort experiences (chocolate tours, underwater sculpture park, waterfall hikes).

Sandals Negril — The best value Sandals honeymoon. Negril’s Seven Mile Beach is one of the most beautiful stretches of sand in the Caribbean, and the resort’s beachfront butler villas offer genuine luxury at the lowest Sandals price point.

Not sure which resort is right for you? This is exactly what I help couples figure out — based on your travel dates, budget, what you want from the trip (beach? adventure? food? romance?), and what room categories are actually available. Get my free personalized recommendation →

Step 3: Choose the Right Room Category

At Sandals, the room category matters as much as the resort. Here’s the hierarchy to understand:

Sandals Room Categories Explained

Standard rooms (Deluxe, Luxury, Grande Luxe): The base tier. Comfortable, well-furnished, with full Sandals all-inclusive access. Perfect for couples focused on the resort experience rather than suite-specific perks.

Club Level (Club Sandals): The Club Sandals lounge gives you a dedicated concierge, premium spirits, continental breakfast, afternoon canapés, and priority reservations. A worthwhile upgrade for couples who appreciate VIP service touches.

Butler Suites: Your personal butler handles dining reservations, unpacking, room setup, and any special romantic arrangements (rose petals, champagne, private dinners). Butler service transforms the experience for honeymooners who want every moment handled. I strongly recommend Butler level for first-time Sandals honeymooners who can afford it.

Overwater Bungalows/Villas: Glass floors, private plunge pools, direct water access, and 24-hour butler service. The most romantic accommodations in the entire Sandals portfolio. Available at Sandals Grande St. Lucian, Royal Caribbean, and Saint Vincent. Book 9-12 months in advance.

Step 4: Understand What’s Included (and What’s Not)

This is where Sandals genuinely stands out from other all-inclusive brands. Sandals includes far more than competitors at their base price:

What’s Always Included at Sandals

  • Unlimited dining at all resort restaurants (from casual beach bars to gourmet French cuisine)
  • Premium liquor, including top-shelf brands (not just well drinks)
  • All non-motorized water sports (kayaking, paddleboarding, windsurfing, snorkeling)
  • Scuba diving for certified divers (2 dives per day included — a $100+/day value at comparable non-Sandals dive operations)
  • Airport transfers to and from the resort
  • Tips and gratuities for all staff
  • Wi-Fi throughout the resort
  • Live entertainment and shows nightly
  • The complimentary honeymoon package (see below)

What Costs Extra at Sandals

  • Spa treatments (massages, facials, body wraps — these can add $100-$300 per session)
  • Motorized water sports (jet skiing, parasailing, deep-sea fishing)
  • Off-resort excursions (island tours, zip-lining, waterfall hikes)
  • Premium fine dining at the top-tier signature restaurants at some resorts
  • Photo packages beyond the complimentary session

The Sandals Complimentary Honeymoon Package

Every couple honeymooning within 12 months of their wedding date receives, at no extra cost:

  • Chilled sparkling wine on arrival
  • Special romantic turndown service on the first evening
  • Breakfast in bed on a morning of your choice
  • A complimentary 20-minute couples photo session
  • A private candlelit dinner for two (at select resorts)

To claim this package, bring a copy of your marriage certificate and register with the resort’s Romance Concierge on check-in. Your Pixie Honeymoons agent will remind you of exactly what to bring and what to request.

Step 5: Plan Your Passports and Travel Documents

Every Sandals resort requires a valid passport for U.S. citizens. The critical rule: your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after your return date. If your passport expires in March and you’re returning in October, you need to renew — even though your passport technically isn’t expired on your travel date.

Current U.S. passport processing times (as of 2026) can run 8-12 weeks for routine processing and 4-6 weeks for expedited. Apply as early as possible — don’t let a passport delay jeopardize your honeymoon.

No visa is required for U.S. citizens to visit any of the islands where Sandals operates (Jamaica, Antigua, Barbados, St. Lucia, Grenada, Curaçao, and St. Vincent).

Step 6: Dress Code and Packing Guide

Most Sandals resorts enforce a resort-casual dress code for dinner restaurants in the evening. This means:

  • Men: Collared shirts (polo or button-down), dress slacks, or dark jeans. No athletic wear, tank tops, or flip-flops at dinner
  • Women: Sundresses, resort wear, blouses with trousers or skirts. No swimwear cover-ups at dinner restaurants

A few specialty restaurants (French or Italian gourmet dining at some properties) are more formally dressed — check your specific resort’s guidelines before packing.

Essential Sandals packing list for honeymooners:

  • 3-4 “dinner outfits” (men: 3+ collared shirts, women: 3-4 dresses/resort wear)
  • Swimsuits (pack more than you think — they take a day to dry)
  • Water shoes or reef shoes for snorkeling
  • Reef-safe sunscreen (required at most Sandals resorts; conventional sunscreen is prohibited)
  • Waterproof phone case or GoPro for underwater photos
  • Formal or semi-formal outfit if you plan to dine at gourmet restaurants or have a private beach dinner
  • Travel insurance documentation (strongly recommended)

Step 7: Book Special Romantic Touches in Advance

As a Sandals Platinum Elite agent, I can arrange the following for your honeymoon before you arrive — reducing the chance that things get booked up by other guests:

  • Private beachfront or pier dinner for two — $150-$300 per couple depending on the resort and package. One of the most romantic experiences at Sandals
  • In-room rose petal setup — Arrange for petals on the bed and a champagne bucket on arrival
  • Photography packages — The complimentary 20-minute session is a starting point; upgraded packages with 1-2 hour sessions and digital galleries are available
  • Spa couple’s package — A 1-hour couples massage is the most popular spa experience for honeymooners. Book through the resort spa directly after checking in, or ask me to pre-arrange it
  • Scuba resort course — If either of you has never tried scuba, the 2.5-hour resort course (swimming pool + shallow ocean dive) is included in the Sandals price

Step 8: Consider Travel Insurance

For a honeymoon investment of $5,000-$15,000+, travel insurance is not optional in my opinion. Look for a policy that covers:

  • Trip cancellation/interruption (weather events, illness)
  • Medical evacuation (hospital care on Caribbean islands can be limited)
  • Baggage delay/loss (losing your formal dinner clothes on arrival is not the honeymoon memory you want)
  • “Cancel for any reason” coverage if you want maximum flexibility

I work with several travel insurance providers and can recommend the right policy for your trip. This is typically a small percentage of your total trip cost — $150-$400 for comprehensive coverage on a Sandals honeymoon.

Why Book Your Sandals Honeymoon Through Pixie Honeymoons

As a Sandals Chairman’s Royal Club Platinum Elite Agency — a designation held by fewer than 1% of all Sandals travel partners worldwide — Pixie Honeymoons receives the highest tier of Sandals agent benefits. What this means for your honeymoon:

  • Priority room assignments: We can flag specific room requests (ocean view, honeymoon floor, end-of-building for privacy) that significantly increase the odds of a favorable room assignment
  • Platinum Elite promotions: Some Sandals promotions are available only through agents at our tier — not on Sandals.com
  • Personal resort relationships: I have visited all 17 Sandals resorts personally. When I recommend a specific building, floor, or room number, it’s based on firsthand experience
  • No additional cost to you: Sandals compensates us directly. Your price is identical to (or lower than) booking direct
  • Problem resolution: If anything goes wrong — a room that doesn’t match the description, a scheduling issue, a resort credit discrepancy — you have a dedicated advocate who knows the Sandals team personally

Frequently Asked Questions: Planning a Sandals Honeymoon

Do I need to show proof of marriage for the Sandals honeymoon package?

Yes. You’ll need to show either a marriage certificate or a copy of your marriage license at check-in to activate the complimentary honeymoon package. Sandals accepts honeymoons within 12 months of the wedding date. Vow renewals may also qualify — ask your Pixie Honeymoons agent.

Can we get married at Sandals and honeymoon at the same resort?

Yes — Sandals is famous for their “WeddingMoon” packages that combine a wedding ceremony with a honeymoon stay. Free wedding packages are available with most stays of 6+ nights and include the ceremony, officiant, floral arrangements, cake, and photography session. Sandals Grande St. Lucian and Sandals Grande Antigua are the two most popular wedding destinations in the Sandals collection.

What is the best time of year to honeymoon at Sandals?

The best weather is December through April — sunny skies, low humidity, and temperatures in the low 80s. However, this is peak season with higher prices. For the best value, May, June, or early November offer significantly lower rates with still-enjoyable weather. Curaçao is a year-round option as it sits outside the hurricane belt.

Can my husband/wife and I use the scuba diving included at Sandals even though we’re not certified?

Yes. Every Sandals resort includes a beginner “resort course” in the scuba price — no certification required. The 2.5-hour course includes pool instruction and a shallow ocean dive with a certified instructor. Certified divers get 2 boat dives per day included. Sandals is one of the few all-inclusive resorts in the world that includes scuba at no additional charge.
