The Evolution of Sandals Select Rewards: 2008 to 2026
Sandals Select Rewards ran for nearly two decades before becoming the Island Insiders Club on July 1, 2026. Here’s how the program evolved, based on archived program materials and Sandals’ own announcements:
- 2008 — Sandals Select Rewards launches. Tiers were based on stays and paid nights: Select (2nd stay), Gold (3rd stay or 24 nights), Platinum (5th stay or 40 nights) and Diamond (10th stay or 100 nights), plus a 10,000-point enrollment bonus. There were no tier gifts at first.
- The separate “Special Recognition Awards.” Apart from the tiers, cumulative nights earned milestone gifts: a silver Sandals pendant at 35 nights, a gold pendant at 56 nights, and a free week at 70 nights — each a multiple of seven, the length of a typical Sandals week.
- 2011 — the first published benefits chart, listing perks such as a Welcome Back Gift on arrival, a spa hydrotherapy bath for two at Platinum, and dining with two favorite staff members at Diamond.
- 2016 — benefits refined. The chart was restyled and the hydrotherapy bath became a 30-minute couples massage.
- 2018 — the Pearl tier arrives, along with the first tier-specific gifts: stylized “S” pins (later reworked into pin-and-necklace sets). Pearl’s massage was upgraded to 60 minutes and VIP recognition was formalized.
- 2020 — join before you travel. A new entry “Member” level let guests enroll before their first stay for the first time.
- 2021 — a milestone loss. Sandals founder Gordon “Butch” Stewart passed away in January.
- 2022 — Ambassador becomes official. The invitation-only Ambassador tier was formally recognized (adding private transfers and preferred-room requests), and Sandals hired Peter Menges as Senior Vice President of Customer Engagement and Loyalty.
- 2026 — the Island Insiders Club. On July 1, Sandals Select Rewards becomes the Island Insiders Club with seven tiers (Shell, Coral, Sapphire, Emerald, Diamond, Pearl and Ambassador), the return of milestone recognition gifts, and — fittingly — a little pair of sandals back in the logo.
